Professor Guangbin Dong is currently the Weldon G. Brown Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Chicago. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Peking University in 2003 and his Ph.D. in 2009 from Stanford University under the supervision of Professor Barry M. Trost. He then conducted postdoctoral research from 2009 to 2011 at the California Institute of Technology in the group of Professor Robert H. Grubbs. From 2011 to 2016, he served as an Assistant Professor and a CPRIT Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2016, he joined the University of Chicago as a Professor and was appointed the Weldon G. Brown Professor of Chemistry in 2023. His research focuses on organic synthesis, organometallic chemistry, total synthesis, and conjugated organic materials. He has made significant contributions to areas including inert C–C and C–H bond activation, palladium/norbornene cooperative catalysis, organoboron chemistry, and the synthesis of organic conjugated materials. To date, he has published over 200 papers as a corresponding author, including publications in prestigious journals such as Science (5 papers), Nature (5 papers), Nat. Chem. (8 papers), Nat. Catal. (3 papers), and J. Am. Chem. Soc. (over 50 papers). His notable awards and honors include the Mukaiyama Award (2025), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS, 2024), the ACS E. J. Corey Award (2024), the Tetrahedron Young Investigator Award (2021), Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award (2017), the Chan Memorial Award in Organic Synthesis (2018), and the Sloan Research Fellowship (2014).
